Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage techniques are traditionally performed with the client unclothed; massage is best skin on skin however, it is entirely up to you what you want to wear. You should undress to your level of comfort. You will be properly draped during the entire session, - only the area of the body that is being massaged will be undraped at that time. Workplace massage, foot reflexology and most chair massages are performed with client fully clothed.

Will the practitioner be present when I disrobe?
The practitioner will NOT be present. They will leave the room so that you can undress in private, position yourself comfortably on the table, and cover yourself with the sheet and/or blanket.  They will knock on the door before re entering and will wait for your permission to enter.

Will I be covered during the session?
You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being massaged will be undraped.

What parts of my body will be massaged?
A typical full-body session will include work on your back, arms, hands, legs, feet, head, neck, and shoulders.

What will the massage feel like?
A relaxing Swedish massage is often a baseline for clients. In a general Swedish massage, your session may start with broad, flowing strokes that will help calm your nervous system and relax exterior muscle tension. As your body becomes relaxed, pressure will gradually be increased to relax specific areas and relieve areas of muscular tension. Often, a light oil or lotion is used to allow your muscles to be massaged without causing excessive friction to the skin. The oil also helps hydrate your skin. You should communicate immediately if you feel any discomfort so that another approach may be taken. Massage and bodywork are most effective when your body is not resisting.

Are there different kinds of massage and bodywork?
There are numerous types of massage and bodywork; various techniques utilize different strokes, including basic rubbing strokes, rocking movement, posture and movement re-education, application of pressure to specific points, and more. We can discuss which methods may be most appropriate for you.

What should I do during the massage or bodywork session?
Prior to the massage, feel free to ask the practitioner any questions about the technique or the upcoming session. During the massage, make yourself comfortable. The practitioner will either gently move you or tell you what is needed throughout the session (such as lifting your arm). Many people just close their eyes and completely relax, communicating if/when they need more or less pressure, another blanket, or anything else relevant to the session. If you have any questions regarding the session or about the particular technique you are receiving, feel free to ask.

How will I feel after the massage or bodywork session?
Most people feel very relaxed. Some experience freedom from long-term aches and pains developed from tension or repetitive activity. After an initial period of feeling slowed down, people often experience increased energy, heightened awareness, and greater productivity which can last for days. Since toxins are released from your soft tissues during a massage, it is recommended you drink plenty of water following your massage.

What are the benefits of massage and bodywork?
Massage and bodywork can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and reduce blood pressure. Massage and bodywork is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.

Are there any medical conditions that would make massage or bodywork inadvisable?
Yes. That's why it's imperative that, before you begin your session, the practitioner asks general health questions. It is very important that you inform the practitioner of any health problems or medications you are taking. If you are under a doctor's care, it is strongly advised that you receive a written recommendation for massage or bodywork prior to any session. Depending on the condition, approval from your doctor may be required.

How Does In-Home Service Work?
It's very easy and convenient!  First, contact me to schedule your session. Your session will be customized based on your needs and goals. We will discuss all details of your session, and any questions you may have will be answered at this time.  Once your session is booked, for your convenience, I will e mail you a Health History and Consent Form (all new clients are required to complete these forms), you can download the forms here, or if you are unable to print the forms, I can bring them to your session for you to complete.  Second, to save time, print and complete your forms in advance, I will review and collect them at your first session - your forms and everything that is discussed during your session is confidential.  On the day of your session, I will arrive approx 10 minutes before the scheduled start time, introduce myself, and set up my equipment - which usually takes less than 10 minutes. Once set up, we will again briefly discuss the details of the session, and I will answer any questions you may have. Next, I will leave the area where the session is taking place to wash my hands - this gives my clients complete privacy to disrobe, and to get on the table and cover up under the sheet / blanket. What to wear:  Reflexology and chair massage sessions are performed with the client fully clothed. Massage however, is best skin on skin, but clients should wear whatever they are comfortable wearing, and only undress to their comfort level. I ask my clients to let me know when they are comfortably on the table, and covered under the sheet / blanket, so that I can re enter the area and begin the session. During the session,  I check with my clients to make sure they are comfortable, and the pressure is adequate. A client always has the right to make changes to the session, or even stop the session if they need to. A client should always feel comfortable. If a client is being treated for an issue that may be painful, communication is very important, as is establishing a pain threshold and working within a clients pain tolerance.  My clients are covered with a sheet, or blanket, or both if they prefer, and the only part of the body that is undraped, is the part of the body being worked on at that time. When the session is complete, I will again leave the area, which gives my client complete privacy to get dressed. Once my client notifies me they are all set, I will return to the area and promptly pack up my massage equipment. At this time the payment for the session is made, and we can talk about scheduling your next session...  I then leave you to relax... It's that simple!

How Does Corporate / Workplace Massage Work?
I provide a sign up sheet, client intake forms, and promotional material for your office in advance. The sign up sheet may be posted in a common area for all employees to access, or left with an on-site contact person. The sign up sheet is e-mailed to me the day before the sessions take place. I reply with an appointment schedule and billing invoice. The sessions are carried out as scheduled in a portable massage chair. I set up the chair in a small area that's been arranged so as to provide privacy for the treatment. The massage chair is adjustable and designed to allow the employee to adopt a comfortable and relaxing position; while at the same time enabling me to treat the back, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. No oils or lotions are used, and the employee stays fully clothed. Music is provided to help the employee relax. The length of the sessions are pre determined, and usually last between 10-20 minutes. The session is generally aimed towards relieving stress and tension and/or preventing or treating repetitive strain injuries.  All sessions are customized to meet the specific needs of my clients. A massage table can also be requested. I can easily arrange for additional therapists to accompany me to accommodate larger groups when time is limited. Payment is due upon completion of the scheduled sessions.
